The Site

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Senator Jack Hart, Representative Brian Wallace, and Representative Martin Walsh, Governor Deval Patrick signed Senate Bill 2435 on June 30, 2010, designating the playground at the Marine Park in South Boston—The Michael Joyce Memorial Playground.

The dedication ceremony was held on Thursday, October 14, 2010, and attended by former Ambassador to the Vatican and long-time Mayor Ray Flynn, former Senate President and UMass President William Bulger, and DCR Commissioner Richard Sullivan, along with friends, committee members, family, neighbors, and supporters.

We encourage you to visit the site at Marine Park across from the Atlantic Ocean. The same ocean crossed by so many courageous men and women looking to start a new life in America. For many of these newcomers, Michael Joyce became a trusted advisor, a mentor, and a life-long friend.
